Social Media Policies

As more counties are establishing social media presences on sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube, it is imperative that guidelines be established for what kinds of posts are acceptable, who can post, will public comments be allowed, etc.

Below are some copies of social media policies that have been adopted by other counties and contributed by NACIO members.

King County (Wash.) Social Media planning tool

King County has developed a comprehensive Social Media Action Plan that is used to determine how departments can best utilize social media as part of their overall communications strategy. Social Media Coordinator Derek Belt has created a multi-page project application that is used to determine if a department should have a separate social media channel or use the existing King County channels.
