Please forgive me in advance for the length of this letter, but I have a lot of important information to share with you. Most importantly, I hope this finds you all healthy and safe. As with everyone, I’m sure COVID-19 has changed how you’re working and probably impacted your workload as well. With that said, I also hope you’ve been able to find a silver lining during the pandemic – for me it’s been a reminder to slow down and the opportunity to spend more time at home with my boys (although sometimes they drive me crazy!) - and that you are able to find some time to rest and reset too.
As you probably know by now, the NACo annual conference has been canceled. The NACIO board has also decided to cancel the awards competition this year. While I’m disappointed about the annual conference and not getting to some of you in person, I understand the decision – as local government employees not only are we also continuing to adjust and adapt to new ways of working, as communicators many of us also have added responsibilities associated with COVID-19.
Your Board wants to continue to offer you value for your membership and we are working on ways to bring new content, opportunities for you to connect with each other, and ways to support counties who do not have communicators on staff. That’s where we need your help! One of the things we want to do is compile an online resource portal to share COVID-19 related communication materials – one place to gather everything that you are creating, from news releases to infographics, website layouts, videos, internal communication materials and everything in between. Please clearly name/label your materials so we can categorize them correctly on the portal. Submit your materials to NACIO1966@gmail.com.
We are also working on developing and coordinating a few webinars. If there are topics you want to know more about or topics you want to share/present on, please submit those to me at Rebecca.Carter@mecknc.gov.
Thanks again for your patience as we try to make the best decisions for NACIO. I look forward to seeing and hearing from you all soon.
NACIO President 2019-21
